The Boab Tree – Art, Natural Wine & Mediterranean Fire on Calle Caridad
There are restaurants, and then there are experiences. The Boab Tree, tucked into Calle Caridad 93 in Estepona’s old town, firmly belongs in the second category. Run by owner Anissa and her small, dedicated team, this intimate restaurant has quietly climbed to the very top of Estepona’s dining scene — currently ranked among the top restaurants in town on TripAdvisor, and holding a Travellers’ Choice award to prove it.
The concept is unlike anything else in Estepona. The interior is part restaurant, part art gallery: earthy tones, wooden accents, botanical details and rotating works by local artists cover the walls, creating an atmosphere that feels genuinely creative rather than decorative. Live piano music plays on selected evenings, and the whole space is designed to slow you down and make you stay longer than you planned.
The menu is Mediterranean at heart but refuses to be predictable. Standout dishes include langostinos al pil-pil, artichoke hearts with foie and jamón, grandmother-style croquetas, and a flambéed beef rib that arrives dramatically at the table. Salmon tartare, tuna tacos and Irish Angus steaks round out a menu that comfortably spans starters, sharing plates and serious main courses. Vegan and gluten-free options are woven throughout. The natural wine list is carefully chosen to match the food and the mood of the place.
Book ahead — particularly if you want a table on the outdoor terrace, which fills up fast. This is a restaurant worth planning your evening around.
