Travel Guide
Getting Here & Getting Around Estepona
Everything you need to know about arriving smoothly in the Garden of the Costa del Sol and exploring the town with ease.
✈️ Arriving by Air
Estepona is conveniently located between two major airports on the Costa del Sol:
- Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP): Approx. 60 minutes away via the AP-7 toll road (~80 km). Most international flights land here.
- Gibraltar International Airport (GIB): Approx. 45 minutes away (~45 km). A great option for flights arriving from the UK.
Exploring Andalucia at your own pace? Pre-booking a rental car at Málaga Airport gives you maximum flexibility to visit nearby whitewashed villages like Casares or Ronda.
🚌 Direct Airport Bus & Transfers
Avanza Airport Express Bus
There is a direct bus service running from Málaga Airport directly to Estepona Bus Station (Estación de Autobuses). The trip takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes, and only 1 stop at Marbella. It is comfortable, air-conditioned, and very affordable.
Private Transfers & Taxis
Pre-booked private transfers or taxis are available right outside Arrivals at Málaga and Gibraltar airports, delivering you directly to your accommodation. Consider also Uber, Bolt and the local app Cabify.
On Foot
Estepona’s Old Town and the newly renovated, car-free Boulevard are made for walking!
Wandering through flower-filled plazas like Plaza de las Flores is the best way to soak in authentic local life. Stroll along the scenic Paseo Marítimo linking the lively Marina directly to the historic center.
Want to go further? Thanks to the coastal path (Senda Litoral), you can walk for more than 10 kilometers in both directions along the Mediterranean coast, taking in endless sea views all the way!
Bikes & E-Scooters
With the flat coastal promenade (Senda Litoral), renting a bicycle or e-scooter is a fantastic idea. Check out local rentals near the town center like Costa Bike or Eco & Bike.
Local Buses & Taxis
Urban bus lines connect the center with outer areas like Selwo Aventura or the surrounding urbanizations. Taxis are easy to flag down at designated ranks along the boulevard and marina.
🅿️ Parking Tips in Estepona
Because the historic center is mostly pedestrianized, parking on the street can be tricky. Fortunately, Estepona offers convenient, low-cost underground parking municipal facilities:
- Avenida España / Boulevard Parking: Located right under the main coastal promenade, steps away from the beach and Old Town.
- Orchidarium Parking (Plaza del Ajedrez): Great central option if you are visiting the Orchidarium or exploring the inner streets.
- Estepona Port Parking: Perfect for a day at Playa del Cristo or dining at the Marina hotspots.
