The “Big Two” (Most Popular)
Christo Beach
Located just west of the Marina, this sheltered cove is legendary for its calm, shallow waters.
- The Vibe: Safe, cozy, and kid-friendly. Because it faces west, it stays sunny longer than any other beach in town.
- Highlights: The water is often a few degrees warmer here because of the protective horseshoe shape.
- Amenities: Two popular beach bars (Havana & the lively Lolailo) and plenty of sunbeds for rent.
- Tip: Arrive early! This beach is small and fills up fast on summer weekends.

Playa de la Rada (The Town Center Hub)
This is Estepona’s flagship beach, stretching for over 2.5km right along the town center.
- The Vibe: Energetic and convenient. Perfect for families who want everything within reach.
- Highlights: A wide palm-lined promenade, numerous playgrounds, and Blue Flag status.
- Amenities: Showers, toilets, lifeguards, and dozens of chiringuitos (beach bars) serving fresh espetos (sardine skewers).
- Tip: It’s great for a morning power-walk or a sunset stroll before heading into the Old Town for tapas.
Eastern Estepona (Luxury & Water Sports)
Playa del Padrón
Located near the former Kempinski Hotel (noe Melia) and the newly rebuilt Laguna Village.
- The Vibe: Trendy and upscale.
- Highlights: Clear waters and a lively atmosphere. It’s the place to go if you want a “Beach Club” experience.
- Activities: Great for jet-skiing and other water sports.
Playa El Saladillo
One of the longest stretches in the municipality (3km), located toward Marbella.
- The Vibe: Spacious and peaceful. Even in high season, you can find a quiet corner.
- Activities: Popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing due to the open sea breeze.
- Amenities: Dotted with high-end chiringuitos and restaurants.
Western Estepona (Wild & Natural)
Playa Bahía Dorada
Known for its unique rock formations and deep blue waters.
- The Vibe: Tranquil and rustic.
- Highlights: The mix of sand and rocks makes it the best spot in Estepona for snorkeling.
- Tip: Wear water shoes (booties) as the seabed can be pebbly.
Playa Arroyo Vaquero / Costa Natura
- The Vibe: Natural and liberating.
- Highlights: This area includes Costa Natura, Spain’s first official naturist resort. The beach is wide, quiet, and offers a real sense of freedom.
- Blue Flag: It often holds Blue Flag status for its water quality and environmental care.
Special Interest Beaches
Playa de Piedra Paloma (Dog-Friendly)
If you are traveling with your furry friend, this is your go-to spot on the border of Estepona and Casares.
- Highlights: It is one of the few officially designated dog beaches in the area. It’s clean, spacious, and has a great beach bar nearby that welcomes pets.
Playa de Guadalmansa (Kitesurf Heaven)
Located on the eastern side, this beach is the official zone for kitesurfing. If the wind is up, the sky here is filled with colorful kites.
Just a Short Drive Away
- San Luis de Sabinillas: Just a 10-minute drive west of Estepona. While many coastal spots have gone high-end, Sabinillas maintains a wonderful, salt-of-the-earth energy that locals and savvy travelers adore. If you’re looking for that perfect “boho-chic” beach day, look no further than Amaka Beach
- Playa Ancha (Casares Costa): A beautiful, wide beach with a lovely promenade and great views of the Torre de la Sal.
- Punta Chullera (Manilva): Famous for its crystal-clear water and rocky coves—absolutely stunning for photography and swimming.
- Playa de Torreguadiaro (Sotogrande): Located just a short drive west towards Sotogrande, Playa de Torreguadiaro is one of the most popular coastal spots for those who love a mix of relaxation and a vibrant social scene. For many, a visit to this beach isn’t complete without stopping at Bahía Limón. This iconic chiringuito is the heart of Torreguadiaro’s beach life, known for its fantastic live music sessions and DJ sets at sunset.
Plan Your Perfect Beach Day
Most are very popular spots, especially on weekends. If you want to snag a front-row seat for the sunset with a mojito in hand, be sure to arrive a little early! Many local beach clubs and chiringuitos offer the option to book your loungers ahead of time. It’s the best way to enjoy a stress-free day at the beach! Just give them a quick call or message them on social media. During the busy summer months (July & August), we highly recommend booking a few days ahead.
We’ve handpicked the best spots so you don’t have to search. Whether you want a family day at El Cristo or a snorkeling adventure at Bahía Dorada, Estepona has a shore for you.
